Training Your Dragon: Benefits of No Nut November

  • Benefits of NNN have not been published or observed so far in credible circles.
  • Abstinence and edging/not ejaculating, are two very different aspects.
  • Retaining semen, a practice associated with NNN, for a longer period of time, could actually lead to mental and physical issues.
Introduction

Every year, you get an invite: “Join us for the manly adventures of “No Nut November!”

Hold on, what is that?! “No Nut November” refers to the act of refraining from “nutting”, a.k.a. ejaculating, for the entire month of November. Before you hop onto this bandwagon, let’s take a moment to step back and reflect on the purpose of it. Is it even useful?

To save you the anticipation: the short and scientific answer is “No”. There are no scientific or proven benefits of abstaining from sex or masturbation. Let’s break it down and see why.

"Reclaiming Your Manhood" (Whatever That Means!)

A study in China, by Ming Jiang et al., titled “A research on the relationship between ejaculation and serum testosterone level in men” found that there were no fluctuations in hormones observed from 2nd to 5th day of abstinence. However, a peak was observed on the 7th day. When people speak of “manhood” they essentially cite studies like this without realizing that they are drops in an ocean that is rapidly evaporating.

This article was retracted in December of 2021!

Another study conducted in 2019 suggested that shorter periods of abstinence for a period of short 1-4 days could actually lead to significantly lower sperm fragmentation.

Notice how these articles are talking about short periods of abstinence i.e. no sexual activity / masturbation and not specifically to semen retention? There is no study showing or confirming the benefits to increase over time or with preventing an ejaculation. On the contrary, it is quite the opposite.

Dr. Rena Malik, a urologist breaks this down in her youtube video, explaining that longer periods of semen retention (not abstinence) could have a terrible impact on the physical and mental health of that individual.

In her words, edging (a common way of retaining semen), instead of adding any benefits, could cause anxiety and depression, and add strain to romantic relationships. On a more physical level, it could add to pelvic pain and discomfort, and even cause epididymal hypertension, (slang: blue balls) due to the increased blood flow to the testicles without relief from ejaculation.

Conclusion

As we see, there is no true “benefit” per-se of not ejaculating. It is better to learn about safe masturbation practices with us, and if you are struggling with porn-addiction or masturbation addiction, remember to seek out professional help instead of believing an internet “buddy010”!

However, if you are really up for a challenge, and probably still want to reclaim manhood, the best way is to truly understand your body and respect others for theirs. Here is our archive on “Men’s Health”!
